This case study shows how YG glass vacuum lifting equipment helps a curtain wall maintenance company in France complete safer and more efficient glass replacement work under working conditions with limited access, strict safety requirements, and frequent glass panel changes. Powered by electric travel, vacuum suction, and multi-angle adjustment, the machine replaces traditional manual handling and crane-assisted solutions.
Client Background
- The client is a professional office building curtain wall maintenance and glass replacement service provider in France, serving commercial buildings in Paris and surrounding areas.
- The project targets a high-rise office building with unitized glass curtain walls on its facade. Some glass panels need replacement due to aged seals, damaged frames, and accidental impacts.
- What the client needed was not a single suction lifting tool, but a set of glass panel lifting equipment that can move flexibly between indoor and outdoor passages, lobby entrances, and curtain wall maintenance platforms.
- Since the project sits in the city centre, the client also required low noise, zero exhaust emissions, and precise positioning within narrow aisles.
The Challenges Before Cooperation
Before adopting YG equipment, the client faced these problems:
- High risks in manual handling: Curtain wall glass is heavy and large. Manual handling easily causes glass breakage, worker injuries, and installation errors.
- Limits of traditional hoisting: Heavy traffic around the office building makes road occupation approval for large cranes complicated. Cranes also cannot enter some indoor passages and underground unloading zones.
- Poor installation accuracy: Glass needs lifting, flipping, rotation, and fine adjustment before fitting into the curtain wall frame. Ordinary equipment can hardly finish all these movements at the same time.
- High downtime costs: The work zone must be closed for every glass replacement. The client wanted to cut the time for replacing each glass panel and reduce disruption to building tenants.
Our Custom Solution: YG Glass Vacuum Lifting Equipment
Based on glass sizes, passage widths, installation heights, and site ground conditions, YG offered the client a custom solution and fitted a glass lift robot suitable for curtain wall maintenance.
Core Configuration
- YG-LD-500 was selected as the main unit to meet the handling and installation demands for common medium and large curtain wall glass on the project.
- It is equipped with 6 rubber vacuum suction cups of 300 mm diameter, which can firmly grip smooth surfaces including flat glass, ceramics, stone, and metal plates.
- The support arm can lift up and down, stretch forward and retract backward, helping the machine get close to curtain wall frames and adapt to different installation spots.
- The suction cup frame can rotate 360° and tilt 180°, allowing operators to switch glass from horizontal transport status to vertical installation status.
- The whole machine adopts electric lifting and electric travel. No fuel power is needed in indoor lobbies, corridors, and unloading platforms, lowering noise and exhaust emissions.
Key Safety Designs
- Each suction cup comes with an independent vacuum control valve for separate on/off control. It fits glass of different sizes and simplifies maintenance.
- The machine has power-failure pressure retention and alarm devices. Even in unexpected power cuts, the system keeps vacuum pressure to win extra handling time for on-site workers.
- The vacuum system features a low-pressure alarm. It alerts operators when suction approaches dangerous levels, matching basic safety rules for warning and fail-safe protection of vacuum lifting equipment.
- Extension bars can be added according to glass dimensions, so one single machine covers more curtain wall maintenance scenarios.

On-site Implementation & Delivery
Pre-delivery Preparation
- YG’s technical team confirmed the machine model and suction cup layout based on glass dimensions, weight, curtain wall detail drawings, and site photos of passages provided by the client.
- The client chose glass lifting equipment for sale instead of short-term rental, so they could reuse the machine on multiple office building maintenance projects later.
- Before shipment, the machine passed full tests on vacuum suction, lifting, travel, rotation, tilting, and alarm functions, and was packed with protective measures.
On-site Operation Process
- Glass Receiving & Transport: Glass arrives at the building unloading zone by truck. Operators safely lift glass off A-frames or transport racks using the YG machine.
- Indoor Transfer: The machine travels electrically through lobbies, corridors, and areas accessible by freight elevators, avoiding manual dragging and forklift blockages.
- Posture Adjustment: The 180° tilting function of the suction cup frame switches glass from horizontal transport mode to vertical installation mode.
- Precise Alignment: Using 360° rotation and forward/backward stretching of the support arm, operators slowly move glass into position on the curtain wall frame.
- Fine-tuning & Fixing: Installation workers align frames, fit spacers, and lock panels together with support from the machine. The vacuum is then released, and the machine is moved away.
- Acceptance & Recording: After each glass panel is fitted, the team logs installation time, vacuum status, machine performance, and on-site safety inspection results.
Measurable Results & Client Feedback
After project completion, the client gave positive feedback on the real performance of YG glass vacuum lifting equipment.
- Improved efficiency for single glass replacement: Compared with the old method relying on manual work plus small hoisting gear, total time from unloading to transfer to installation alignment was greatly shortened.
- Lower labour costs: Tasks that previously needed multiple workers to carry and hold glass are now handled mainly by the machine for lifting, flipping, and moving, reducing the number of staff directly touching glass.
- Lower glass breakage rate: Independent vacuum control valves and stable suction design reduce shaking and collision risks for glass during handling.
- Better site adaptability: Electric travel and compact body let the machine enter indoor and semi-indoor areas out of reach for traditional cranes.
- Much safer operations: Power-failure pressure retention, vacuum alarms, and separate suction cup controls help the client build a safer and more controllable workflow for curtain wall maintenance.
The client commented that the machine not only solved glass replacement work for the current office building, but also became key equipment for their upcoming curtain wall repair, glass facade installation, and commercial building exterior renovation projects.
